Military Madness
July 7th 2011 02:08
We have hardly had time to breathe unloading containers and what should arrive in it's own metal box? An ex 'Chinese Peoples Liberation Army' motorcycle.
We didn't order it but we suspect who did! The same person whom owns this whole personal museum/garage... he loves to surprise us!
So, we open the box and muse at the agricultural military machine of the past.
This engine was developed by BMW (and Zundapp?) in the thirties.
The side-valve arrangement looks kind of cool and lo and behold it runs quietly and smoothly.
These motorcycles were primarily made to have a sidecar fitted and this is clear by the 'ball-joints' built into the right hand side of the frame.
There are variations in configuration: Hi-Lo range/ Reverse gear/ power-take-off for driving the side-car wheel and braking the side-car wheel.
With movement in the front forks that looks dangerous, I would not ride it and maybe we will just fix it for the fun of experiencing 1930/40's motorcycling...
Stay tuned for that report!
